Tuckingmill Houses, Camborne, Cornwall, UK
The property is situated in Camborne, Cornwall, England, specifically in Tuckingmill on the eastern outskirts of Camborne. The site is located within a Conservation Area and World Heritage Site. On the property stands the former Wesley Chapel, which was constructed in 1843 and has since been converted into an apartment building. Additionally, there is a small disused industrial-type building on the site.
To the west of the site's boundary, there are several buildings that once comprised a Methodist Chapel Complex, originally consisting of a Methodist Chapel and Sunday School. These structures have been converted into apartments, with some space designated for business use.
Our proposal includes a modest two-bedroom, two-story dwelling and a pair of well-proportioned four-bedroom houses, each spanning three levels. Open parking areas are situated at a lower ground floor or basement level.
The houses have been strategically positioned to face Maynes Row, allowing for level pedestrian access to the main entrances and creating a strong road frontage. Access to the undercroft parking area will be provided from Chapel Road.
The design of the proposed dwellings has been carefully considered to harmonize with the existing houses in the area and preserve its character. We intend to pay homage to the mining heritage of this region by incorporating elements such as stone walling, painted render, slate cladding, and natural slate duo-pitched roofs.
In terms of landscaping, our design features the creation of several plateaus through the use of retaining walls. This approach was necessary due to the steep terrain, with the largest plateau designated for a barbecue area complete with seating.
